The Signal Mountain Middle/High School opens in August 2008 after an almost 50-year effort by residents to have a high school located on Signal Mountain. In 2006, the community formed the Founders’ Fund to raise money to bridge the gap between what the Hamilton County Department of Education provided and what was needed to exceed exemplary standards in Academics, Athletics, and the Arts, creating a public college preparatory school on par with the best in the country. The school offers an Early College program, and is seeking accreditation from the International Baccalaureate (IB) Organization to offer its prestigious academic programs.
The Signal Mountain Middle School, which relocated to the new state-of-the-art facility, ranked #1 in the Hamilton County School system and tied for #1 out of 535 middle schools in the State of Tennessee in overall performance. In 2006, the Middle School ranked #1 in the Hamilton County School System, and tied for #4 in the State of Tennessee in overall performance.
